Michael Gill received his Bachelor’s degree in Applied Behavioral Sciences from Ashford University, and a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Capella University. Michael has years of experience in counseling, and has worked in both residential and outpatient settings for drug and alcohol treatment. He is a certified trauma professional through the International Association of Trauma Professionals. As a trauma trained therapist, Michael applies a client centered therapeutic approach in order to meet the individual needs of the client. He utilizes a framework grounded in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and incorporates CBT and DBT strategies with his clients.
Michael believes individuals are capable of improving their lives through changing the way they relate to their own thoughts and emotions, while learning to engage in behaviors which reflect their own personally chosen values. He helps clients to live intentional and authentic lives in substance and eating disorder recovery. Carl Rogers said “the curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change”, and creating a space where individuals can be their authentic selves without judgement enables them to begin the process of healing and change.
Michael specializes in working with all types of addictive or unwanted behaviors. He shares an ‘All Paths to Recovery’ approach and is LGBTQ informed and affirming.
